Tarpey Gallery is proud to present an exhibition of recent work by the winner of the Jonathan Vickers painting prize 2014, Kerri Pratt. The exhibition titled ‘Point Place Time’ will by on display from 9th August – 20th September, 2014 and will feature a selection of larger scale pieces from Kerri’s portfolio as well as new, intimate, smaller scale work completed especially for the exhibition.

Kerri’s practice focuses on a exploration of painting processes, manipulation of paint, surfaces, marks and colour with an intention to produce “something that has an element of familiarity to intrigue and engage the viewer without fully revealing itself.” The ambiguity of the subject matter encourages the viewer to connect to their own experiences, thoughts and memories. It was this considered approach to her discipline which saw the Derbyshire based painter recently announced as the winner of this years prestigious and highly contested Jonathan Vickers Fine Art Award.

“This award means so much to me, as it is a rare luxury for an artist to have unimpeded time to submerge oneself in the county and learn the secrets and stories of a place, its past, and make connections with the here and now; I’m looking forward to this challenge.”
Kerri Pratt, Artbeats Magazine, 2014

Having also been awarded Tarpey Gallery’s Midlands Open Main Prize during last years open exhibition Kerri Pratt’s career continues to gather pace. It was last years open which brought our attention to Kerri’s work and although it is always a difficult decision to find a winner we absolutely fell in love with the small painting on board entered by Kerri which won the prize. Named simply ‘Anonymity’ – we were drawn to the atmosphere within the work and were left with a sense that we had somehow been here before but couldn’t place where or when.
